The Origins of Science Fiction
Talk by Julie Hugonny, PhD
Lecturer in French at the University of Stirling
This talk will present the conditions of emergence of Science Fiction in the 19th century. The first works of apocalyptic Science Fiction by French and English authors are a product of this time of social, political, scientific and artistic upheaval. They also serve as a way to process the fast-changing relations between Humanity and the world. Today, the genre still speaks of our hopes and our fears for the Future, as shown by its enduring popularity.
